MISSON AND PURPOSE

Family Connections offers play therapy trainings that meet the necessary education and supervision requirements for certification as a Registered Play Therapist (RPT) for the Association for Play Therapy (APT).  Family Connections training program is entitled "Hero's at Play".  This program expands mental health professionals' knowledge base with innovative and comprehensive play therapy education. APT requires therapists obtain 150 hours of education in the field of play therapy.  While no more than 135 hours can be obtained via one provider, provisions are incorporated into this program for participants to obtain 15 hours from other sources.  The "Hero's at Play" program can be completed in two years.  If interested best to register as soon as possible, due to limited capacity of six (6) participants per training module.

REQUIREMENTS

​

Participants must hold a Master's Degree in a counseling or related field or be enrolled in a master's program.  A pencil/paper test will be required upon completion of certification program and with an 80% passing.

COST

​

Trainings are designed to be taken at any time with the exception of the Filial Play Therapy.  Pre-requisites exist and need to be reviewed carefully.  While this program is designed to be completed in two years, you may take as long as necessary.  Limited space available.  Most trainings offer 32 CEU's and are typically held on a Friday through Monday, 8:00 am - 5:00 pm each day.  The cost per four day intensive training is $925 and must be paid in full four (4) weeks prior to each training.  An early bird rate is available for $775 if paid in full ten (10) weeks prior to the training.  A non-refundable $125 deposit is available to reserve a space.  The History of Play Therapy training is a one day training with seven (7) CEU's for a cost of $195.  It is typically offered on a Friday from 9:00 am - 5:00 pm.

If you take all trainings offered through Family Connections, the last training you will receive a discount.  The last training you register for, you will receive a $200 discount.  If the History of Play Therapy is the final training, it will be offered to you free of charge. In addition, you will receive two free supervisions/consultations (valued at $280).  However, it is up to you to monitor the trainings you have taken to initiate the discount and complimentary supervision/consultation offerings.

Supervision is available by individually scheduling with Joyce Arendt, MSW, LICSW, RPT-S, SEP.  If you are interested in a group process and have a minimum of four (4) people available, please contact Joyce to make arrangements at Family Connections or at a specified location.

 

In order to complete the additional 15 CEU's that APT requires you obtain from another instructor, can be taken by attending the Minnesota Association for Play Therapy training each year.  You may also obtain some of the 47 credits via online learning. Information is provided during trainings regarding these opportunities.
